Manchester United have informed West Ham that Harry Maguire is staying at Old Trafford this season.

West Ham had a £30 million bid accepted for Maguire earlier this month, but it is believed talks stalled over wage concerns.

The news will come as a blow to Hammers manager David Moyes, who was reportedly willing to make Maguire his new captain.

The Times understands that United have told West Ham that the centre-back is now set to stay where he is for the 2023/24 campaign.

Maguire has not only lost his role as captain, but he’s also fourth in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order for centre-backs.

Unless there is an injury crisis at United this season, I can’t see the England international starting ahead of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof. We must also ask whether he starts ahead of Jonny Evans.

Let us know in the comments section how you feel about Maguire staying and whether you think this will damage his chances of being part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming European Championships.
