Manchester United likened to Harvard University by young winger

Manchester United have been likened to the famous Harvard University by one youngster at the club, with winger Facundo Pellistri reflecting on his time at the club so far.

Pellistri joined the Reds from Penarol in 2020 but had to wait until earlier this calendar year to make his first-team debut for the club.

Between his arrival and his debut, Pellistri spent back-to-back seasons at La Liga club Alaves but struggled to leave a lasting impression in Spain.

Instead, he returned to Old Trafford and spent the entirety of the 2022/23 season with Erik ten Hag’s side, with the Dutchman growing increasingly satisfied with the Uruguay international’s output.

Going into the new season, it looks like Pellistri is going to play a prominent role in the side, with the youngster battling it out with two experienced wingers in Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, Pellistri has opened up on what it is like to learn from some of the best in the business.

“Being here, all the players are top players,” he told the official Manchester United website.

“So when you train here, you learn lot. Every session is like being at Harvard because you have the best of the best. So, in training, you improve a lot.

“Last year, I stayed all the season and I improved a lot in all aspects. And, of course, to be here and to live the way United is, you also gain a lot of experience.

“We have very good players and the competition is there but we have good competition.

“We support each other. The one [who] is best in the moment will play because the important thing for all of us, for the group, is to achieve trophies.

“And the manager always says also that the important thing is the squad. Last year, the squad took an important role. So that’s the way we see things – everyone can play. And you have to be all together to achieve great things.”

Pellistri has been a second-half substitute in both of United’s Premier League games so far and he will be hoping to continue to cement his place as a regular first-team player.

He is already a regular for Uruguay’s senior team and that is a role he will be keen to keep.
