Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he is open to plying his trade in Brazil in the future, with the Portuguese midfield maestro quizzed on the matter by local journalists recently.
Fernandes signed a new long-term contract at United last year, keeping him at the club for at least another three years, with United also having the option of extending his deal for an additional campaign.
The 28-year-old was also recently promoted to captain by Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman opting to remove Harry Maguire from the role this summer.
Speaking recently, Fernandes has showered Brazilian football with praise, hailing the style in South America as ‘electric’ and ‘pure’, hinting that a move to Brazil later in his career may be on the cards.
“Whenever I can, I follow it, because I find Brazilian football attractive, electric football, with a lot of quality, joy, very one-on-one,” Fernandes told ESPN Brasil, via the Manchester Evening News.
“It’s pure football. And I think that now, with the coaches that are there, not only the Portuguese, but also Brazilians, are increasingly developing in the tactical part.
“I don’t really like talking about the distant future, but it’s like I said. It’s attractive football, very interesting. The only thing is that the trips are very long there in Brazil (laughs).
“There are many competitions, many clubs that play Libertadores and Sudamericana, very good competitions. I’m not saying no, because Brazilian football is very attractive, and we never know the future.”
A move to South America at this stage of his career, especially after signing a new contract at United, is highly unlikely as he will still be hungry to secure some of the biggest prizes in Europe.
Additionally, any side approaching United would have to cough up a hefty transfer sum, with statistical website Transfermarket valuing the former Sporting captain at a whopping €75m.
He can go to Brazil now if he wants. He talks about one on one football, well he can’t do that in the premier league so don’t know why he expects to do it somewhere else.
