Onana 7, Casemiro 4: player ratings from Tottenham 2-0 Manchester United

Manchester United’s unbeaten record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has come to an end as the London club inflicted the first defeat on United this season.

Erik ten Hag’s men were looking to make it two from two to kickstart the season in perfect form but another poor performance meant that Tottenham cruised to victory in the second half.

United were unlucky not to score a goal in the first half but Spurs also missed their share of chances, with their dominance finally paying off after the interval.

The home side took the lead early in the second half and continued to dominate throughout, with United looking lacklustre and out of ideas.

Man United Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 7
Kept United in the game at times and displayed his brilliant range of passing. Good performance after a shaky debut.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5
Not his best performance.

Raphael Varane – 5
Didn’t do that much wrong.

Lisandro Martinez – 4
A shaky start to the season. May still be feeling the effects of the injury that ended his debut season.

Luke Shaw – 6
More involved than any other United player in the final third, it seemed.

Casemiro – 4
Slow and overran – he’s left with a lot of space to cover with his midfield partner roaming in a more advanced role.

Mason Mount – 5
Thus far, the deeper midfield role does not seem to be fitting him that well.

Bruno Fernandes – 5
Spurned a golden opportunity with a free header in the first half.

Marcus Rashford – 4
Continues to struggle in that number nine role – he will thrive once Rasmus Hojlund is in the side.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5
United’s most dangerous player but ineffective and let down by poor decision-making.

Antony – 5
Unlucky not to score when he struck the post.

  1. Anthony should be 2 and Mason mount 3 that’s all I don’t blame Rashford because that’s not his normal position

  2. OK: I am now getting worried. ETH has been sold to us as a man who knows what he wants; question now must be “ does he know how to get it? “
This is a United side full of expensive, talented, players who must look good in training during the week, but time and again play rubbish on match day. Got bullied by Wolves who managed to lose 4-1 at home to Brighton today, and now we’ve lost to “ lads, it’s Tottenham.”
This is serious stuff: all these players who are apparently “ desperate “ to join, may well now be thinking: “ hang on, am I being hasty here? “.
Anyone here think this season we’re going to improve on 3rd place and a (minor) trophy?
    Sadly, I don’t.
Huevos: I hate being negative, but, so many games like today: how can I be be positive / optimistic / mildly hopeful?

  3. ETH is a disaster. 400m and still playing ole ball. Bruno as captain. Mount 55m. Antony 85. Rashford paid similar money to de Bruyne. One midfielder left all alone.

When are players gonna get dropped for awful performances? Is like ole all over. United’s best ball player is the keeper. I predict 6-8th.

Also. When will we see high possession and proper pressing? Just a terrible appointment last season was lucky. No style of play. Brighton best wolves 4-1. United could have lost by the same score to wolves last week.

Brighton sell their two midfielders and still play the same!

  4. Manchester united players are jokes, even Ten Hag has lost the ideas 💡. Mount signing is a bigger joke.2nd season in charge will struggle to make top 4..Ten Hag might be very first coach to be sacked 😳

  5. When Maguire was given the arm band, he performed below my expectations and Bruno’s performance has also greatly reduced. Number 7 is too heavy for Mount. We’ll perform better when he puts on another number.

  6. Wish i hadnt been brought up as a united fan spoilt during the fergy and edwards era cant ever see thrm coming bsck u der this oenership.

  7. Overall performance is terrible. 4-1-4-1 is not a formation we can play. Casemiro is over ran. We should be 4-5-1 without the ball and 4-3-3 with the ball.

Mason Mount is a terrible acquisition. The Transfer window is still open, can we sell him before it closes? ETH has completely lost the plot with this signing.

We still cant sell players, as the wages are far too high. Maguire is still a problem, we need to shift him on, to be able to buy others, but I don’t blame him for staying, he is in contract.

We are so desperate for a striker, we should never be in a situation where we have no strikers. Martial (Sick note) just needs to be moved on, Hojlund OK, let’s see, but we need an other.

Rashford is best on the left, so let’s play him there. Wingers need to be able to run to the bye line and cross, not just cut in. Every teams knows this is what we do. AWB is a great defender, but seriously get him practicing his crossing. Make him do 2,000 crosses a day until he gets it.

  8. The Premier League season is a marathon, not a sprint. EtH will make adjustments. Improvements will follow. Seriously, shame on those of you who’ve written the season off already.
