Former Barcelona midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has revealed he snubbed Manchester United in 2013.
After recently announcing his retirement at the age of 36, Boateng has opened up on some of the regrets he has from his playing career. One of them is refusing to join United.
Boateng was coming to the end of his time at Inter Milan when he supposedly could’ve joined United. The former Ghana international moved to Bundesliga outfit Schalke on a four-year deal instead.
However, Boateng didn’t have a happy spell in Schalke – spending just two years at the German club before his contract was terminated in December 2015.
“I have two regrets,” Boateng told Ghana Soccer Net, as cited by the Manchester Evening News. “The first is leaving Hertha [Berlin] too early.
“The second is making the switch from Milan to Schalke at that time. I had the opportunity to switch to Manchester United. I chose Germany – you saw what happened to me at Schalke.”
The Ghanaian journeyman played for a total of 14 different clubs during his career. That included a short loan at Barcelona in 2019
Another one of those clubs was Portsmouth.
If I’m being totally honest, I can’t say I’m too bothered that we never signed Boateng. He didn’t exactly light up Camp Nou, so why does he think United would be any different to Schalke?
