Erik ten Hag made it his priority to strengthen three areas of the pitch this summer and he has done just that by signing a new goalkeeper, a midfielder and a forward to lead the line.
Andre Onana was brought in to reunite with Ten Hag after the pair worked together at Ajax for several years, replacing David de Gea after his 12-year-stay at Old Trafford came to an end.
Mason Mount was signed from Chelsea to bolster the midfield, with the England international playing a slightly deeper role during pre-season.
The number one priority this summer was, however, to sign a goalscorer and after a flurry of links to a number of strikers in Europe, Ten Hag landed his prime target.
Rasmus Hojlund, the exciting Denmark attacker, completed his move from Atalanta last week and now, international and club team-mate Christian Eriksen has opened up on his role in bringing the 20-year-old to Old Trafford, revealing he spoke to the manager about Hojlund.
“He hasn’t paid me yet so I don’t know where he gets that ‘agent’ from! I haven’t had any fee yet!” Eriksen joked on the official Manchester United website after being given the ‘Agent Christian’ nickname.
“Of course, I’ve spoken to the manager about Rasmus before and I’ve spoken to Rasmus about the club so in that way, of course,
“I’ve told him all the stuff about the club and then obviously I still told him at the time it was his decision to see where he wanted to go and where he could see himself. And then, luckily, it was here.
“I hope he will bring some goals but definitely he’ll bring a lot of [desire]. He’s a pressing player with a good technique, good runs. Like a proper nine. I hope he can develop into a very strong player here.”
Hojlund will miss the start of the season due to an injury sustained while taking part in pre-season training with Atalanta earlier this summer.
Once the Danish international has settled into the side, it is fair to assume that he will lead the line in most games, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony flanking him on either side.
Rashford could also act as cover for when Hojlund is rested, with Anthony Martial continuing to endure an injury nightmare.
