David de Gea rejects offer to replace Andre Onana at Inter Milan due to wage demands

David de Gea has reportedly rejected an offer from Inter Milan to replace Andre Onana, who has completed a move to Manchester United.

According to Duncan Castles writing in the Daily Record, the Spaniard’s wage demands have proven too high for the Serie A club and the plug has been pulled on negotiations.

The report states that De Gea is seeking an after-tax salary of £8.7 million. When Inter proposed an annual net wage of £4.3m, the goalkeeper pulled out of talks, leaving the club to seek alternatives.

They had identified him as Onana’s successor, with the Red Devils confirming this evening that the Cameroonian is their latest recruit and new first-choice between the sticks.

De Gea longs for Spain return

De Ge, 32, is hoping to return to his home country of Spain and move to a La Liga side after 12 years in England.

Atletico Madrid, where Sir Alex Ferguson initially scouted the ‘keeper, have placed their No.1 Jan Oblak on the market, which would lead to speculation of a potential reunion between De Gea and his former team.

However, his wage demands have likely priced any top European club out of signing him this summer, even despite him being a free agent.
