Harry Maguire announced on Sunday afternoon that he would no longer be Manchester United captain.
Following talks with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire learned more about his uncertain future at at the club.
Former United defender Gary Neville has praised Harry Maguire’s ‘amazing’ response after the defender released a statement on the matter.
After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

Maguire announced the decision on his social media channels, admitting that he was ‘extremely disappointed’ to lose the role but will continue to give his all for the club.
Neville was among thousands to comment on the defender’s Instagram post, writing: “Amazing response,” with a red heart emoji.

This comes after Maguire spent most of last season on the bench and falling down the pecking order. Bruno Fernandes wore the captain’s armband on a temporary basis when Maguire was not on the pitch.
It won’t be a surprise to anyone — including Maguire — that the England international was stripped of his captaincy duties.
