West Ham to make move for Manchester United star following Rice departure

West Ham are readying a proposal to sign Manchester United star Harry Maguire after the sale of their captain, Declan Rice, was finally finalised this weekend.

Rice has been the subject of endless rumours this summer, with the England international even linked with a move to United at some points.

That never looked realistic, however, and he has now joined Arsenal as he became the most expensive English player of all time, trumping Manchester City’s move for Jack Grealish two years ago.

Selling their talismanic midfielder is significant business for West Ham and although he is not a direct replacement, it is now believed that David Moyes is ready to add Maguire to his squad.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who say that West Ham are now ready to test Maguire’s resolve as they prepare a proposal to sign the Reds skipper.

As per the report, despite falling down Ten Hag’s pecking order last season, Maguire is happy at the club and still believes he is capable of winning his place in the side back.

Moyes is, however, keeping Maguire high on his list of targets but West Ham would prefer to sign the England star on loan, with United preferring a permanent sale.

It’s stated that although Maguire is happy at the club, he may need to consider how much first-team football is at play at United, with a role for England also not guaranteed.

Ten Hag made it abundantly clear that Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were his first-choice centre-backs last season, with Victor Lindelof stepping in when Martinez’s season was ended prematurely.

At some points, left-back Luke Shaw was even preferred to Maguire, with Tyrell Malacia then stepping in at left-back. Maguire is unlikely to accept a similar fate this season.

  1. Moyes’s West Ham would be better suited for Maguire, tactic wise..
He’s a better fit for a high-sprung counter attack team than a more methodical approach one like our current side..
