The summer transfer window is still in its early days with almost two months remaining of non-stop speculation. I am of the opinion the work Manchester United have done so far is promising and it looks like we could have another big deal wrapped up before the pre-season tour.
If you’d said to me before the window started that we would have a deal completed for Mason Mount and were in ongoing discussions with Andre Onana to replace David de Gea, I’d have said you were well over the recommend dosage. And yet here we are, the first week of pre-season training without any process made on the takeover front.
The transfer window to date has been good, things are moving forward, but we haven’t made anywhere near enough process on selling players.
I mean, why has there been a hold up on moving on Dean Henderson when it’s clear he isn’t part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and Nottingham Forest want to sign him?
And according to various reports, United seem to be interested in Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund. We may need to move players out first that is why I’m hoping to see some movement in the market next week as players across the continent return to their current clubs for pre-season.
The next priority is to sign Onana, with the Hojlund saga likely to drag on a bit longer while United make a decision over Mason Greenwood.
Once/if this gets done, United will be able to plan for Ten Hag’s second season and anything else would be considered a bonus.

Utd are dragging their heels on all fronts. Why we still have so many players we can’t sell is staggering. No one wants our rejects so we end up letting them stay until their contracts run out and it has cost the club millions for bench warmers. Take what we can and get rid of them.
Also on the purchasing we are no better than we were the last few years. We look at players and say we are interested but do nothing until it is too late and they are bought by other clubs.
Stop telling the world who we are interested in and go and buy them. As soon as we are interested the price doubles.
It takes Utd three times longer to buy a player than any other club. Are negotiations team are crap. We need a big rethink in that department.
I couldn’t disagree more because I thought United would drag their heels in a MUCH BIGGER way this summer. Takeover going on in the background but Ten Hag could have two prime targets before pre-season at this rate? United can’t do anything about hungry press and the desire for non-stop speculation. It’s fast-paced and no club can stop that on the call of fans being impatient. Agree that recruit team needs to improve, and be less reliant on SEG (Erik’s agency).
