Manchester United reveal Mason Mount squad number after transfer

Mason Mount is Manchester United’s new number 7.

The England international put pen to paper at Manchester United on Wednesday following a summer transfer from Chelsea.

The no.7 shirt is iconic at the Theatre of Dreams and fans will hope Mount can represent it with pride and help bring success to the club following his arrival. It was previously worn by legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It had been a vacant squad number since Ronaldo’s second departure last November.

Alejandro Garnacho had been linked with the shirt of his idol but United surprised fans on social media by announcing Mount will wear no.7 next season.

I am sure this will lead to debate online about who fans think should be United’s no.7. The fact of the matter is, we’ve had some brilliant players cherish the shirt and some awful ones who looked weighed down by it.

The debate itself I would avoid. There are more important matters at United worth discussing right now, and I just hope Mount doesn’t have see a squad number as a burden.

Mount is an exciting signing and a player Chelsea fans will be gutted about losing to United.
