Newcastle United have reportedly joined Manchester United and Bayern Munich in pursuit of Kim Min-jae.
However, they may be too late to the race, as Bayern Munich are now expected to complete the signing of the centre-back over the coming weeks.
Min-jae’s release clause, which is in the region of £45 million, can be activated from July 1, so the reigning Bundesliga giants have already done all the groundwork by agreeing personal terms before paying the fee.
According to a report by El Pais, the South Korean had given the green light to move to the Red Devils, though Bayern swooped in to hijack the deal.
Min-jae’s contract offers
The Magpies offered Min-jae £230,000-a-week to make the switch to St. James’ Park, but it was Bayern’s proposal of a four-year transfer of £198,000 per week that was enough to seal his signature.
This is likely due to Bayern’s likelihood of competing on all fronts next season, while both English clubs continue in their respective rebuilds.
