Manchester United officially end Harry Kane pursuit as they seek cheaper alternatives

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Harry Kane and will instead scour the market for cheaper alternatives to fill the No.9 void.

That’s according to a new update by The Guardian, which confirms that manager Erik ten Hag had placed the England captain on top of his summer shortlist and is now disappointed that a deal will not materialise.

Tottenham Hotspur had just set too high a valuation for their star man, who now boasts all-time top goalscorer status for the club and his national team.

Daniel Levy and co. were unwilling to sanction his exit this summer, and certainly not to a Premier League rival. Kane has just one year left on his deal so may depart North London as a free agent in 2024 unless the board are able to tie him down to a new deal.

Now, the Red Devils will turn their attention to other strikers. Victor Osimhen is admired by Ten Hag but would also likely come too costly after a prolific campaign with Napoli that ended a 33-year wait for the Scudetto.

Rasmus Hojlund, 20, has been linked with the club in recent weeks, though Guardian’s report adds that he would not be a “regular starter” and could cost around £50 million.
