Pep Guardiola honoured to match Sir Alex Ferguson after text message from Manchester United icon

Pep Guardiola’s legacy will be tarnished by cheating and financial doping, but for now he joins a legendary list of coaches to have won three Champions League titles.

In fact, only Carlo Ancelotti (4) has more.

Manchester City completed the Treble in Istanbul last night – becoming the second English club to achieve such a feat, after Manchester United in 1999.

A second-half stroke from Rodri proved enough to ensure City beat Inter Milan in the final.

After the match, Guardiola spoke of how honoured he was to match Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievement in lifting the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season.

Guardiola said (via Daily Mail): “It’s an honour for me to be alongside Sir Alex Ferguson. I got a message from him this morning. It touched me. It was nice.”

However, the biggest difference between the two treble feats is that United did it with a bunch of homegrown players – rather than using the dodgy method of financial doping.

City’s success will be forever tarnished because of this.
