Mason Mount has emerged as a top priority for Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag has surely given his list of targets to United’s recruitment team by now, and he will be hoping to see the club announce their first signing of the summer window in the coming weeks.

It’s important to get most of your business done early in the window, but United are usually slow on that front because everything needs to be given the green light by the Glazers.

We don’t know what will happen with the Glazer family this summer, but the future is bleak for however long they have control over the club.

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, speaking to GiveMeSport, United want Mount but will not sanction a bid of over £60 million for the Chelsea midfielder.

Jacobs said: “This is a high priority for Erik ten Hag, but Manchester United are adamant that they need to be disciplined with Mount, they need to try and get him for under £60m and that, as I’ve said before, is because Manchester United’s transfer policy is restricted. And if they are to bring in a couple of early players, then they’re going to have to try and distribute their budget to allow that to happen rather than using it all up on one player.

“And this is the frustration of Manchester United’s early part of the summer. Even with Champions League football, which will increase the budget, the financial fair play cycle that they are in and the ownership uncertainty are still going to make it relatively difficult for Manchester United to move comparative to some of their rivals.”

The reason United have this stance is not because they don’t think Mount is worth more, but it’s down to the fact he has just one year left on his current deal.

It is understood that Mount has already agreed personal terms with United.
