Manchester United and Chelsea are around £30 million apart in their valuations of Mason Mount.
According to The Athletic, United have held talks with Chelsea’s directors over a potential deal for the 24-year-old, however, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement on a fee.
The Blues are holding out for £70 million plus add-ons for their academy graduate, who has been at the club since he was six years old.
Meanwhile, United “began pitching” at £40 million, making a vast difference between the two valuations.
United prepared to stall Mount bid
If Chelsea refuse to budge, the Red Devils could cool their pursuit and switch their focus to a centre-forward, which is Erik ten Hag’s priority over the summer.
Mount has one year remaining on his current contract and is unwilling to pen an extended deal, meaning he could leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent in 2024 – something that his club will be keen to avoid given his talent and the money they could receive.
