Manchester United unlikely to sign Premier League midfielder in addition to Mason Mount

Mason Mount had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer but following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the midfielder instead emerged as a target for Manchester United.

Reports linking the 24-year-old with an Old Trafford switch are intensifying with each passing day and as things stand, it’s looking increasingly likely that he will become United’s first signing of the summer.

United’s priority is to sign a striker this summer but Erik ten Hag is still keen on adding bodies in midfield, especially considering the uncertain futures of some players in that area.

Ten Hag is also familiar with Mount in the past, having attempted an audacious swoop for the Portsmouth-born midfielder back in 2018.

West Ham star Declan Rice is another England international who has been the subject of repeated links to United but now, it has been reported that if Mount joins the club, it is unlikely that United will be able to sign both players.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that although both players are of interest, the financial hit that would inflict on United’s budget makes a deal difficult.

That report comes after the same publication reported that official talks between United and Chelsea are now underway for Mount, with the Old Trafford hierarchy believing the player is keen on making the switch.

Rice is also said to be looking for an exit from his club this summer and he is prioritising a move to a Premier League club, despite reports of interest abroad.

Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League after spending the vast majority of the campaign at the summit, are believed to be favourites to sign Rice.

  1. I don’t get it.
The best and possibly only way to sign the best English Midfielder since Bryan Robson is to sign Mason Mount, because he’s Declan Rices’ best mate.
If they have to give away a hat full of assets to get him (Given the number of interested clubs) then do it!
    It’s a once on a generation opportunity.
