Manchester United look to hijack Barcelona’s pursuit of Moroccan midfielder

Manchester United are reportedly in pursuit of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

According to Sport in Spain, the Red Devils are latecomers to the Amrabat race, with Barcelona leading the way in recent weeks.

The midfielder almost completed a move to the Camp Nou in the January window, however, a transfer failed to materialise.

It came after he had received plaudits for his impact on the 2022 World Cup, in which he played a pivotal role in Morocco finishing third place.

Now, Erik ten Hag has seemingly set his sights on the 26-year-old. The report suggests that United may capitalise on the Blaugrana’s financial constraints and swoop in to try and hijack a potential deal, with “intensified contacts” taking place in the past few hours.

Amrabat eyes Barcelona move

Amrabat wants to sign for the La Liga champions but is aware that their efforts to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations may hinder the negotiations, especially as Xavi looks to prioritise the return of Lionel Messi.

Because of this, the Moroccan will consider alternative clubs. His contract is set to expire at the end of next season, so Fiorentina may cash in now to avoid him leaving as a free agent.
