Roy Keane not convinced Chelsea midfielder would improve Manchester United

Roy Keane doesn’t believe Chelsea star Mason Mount would improve Manchester United after going “off the boil” at Stamford Bridge.

Questions were asked over the weekend as to whether Mount made his final steps on the Stamford Bridge turf as a Chelsea player following their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on the final day of the league season.

The England international had had contract talks with Chelsea, but there’s been a delay as well as strong links to Manchester United.

Liverpool were already linked with a move for Mount this summer, but David Ornstein from The Athletic believes the 24-year-old has a preference to join United if he leaves Chelsea.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claim Ten Hag is making a big push to add Mount to his squad this summer.

Mount missed the closing stages of the season through injury and — after the season they had — I don’t think he can be singled out for going “off the boil”.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane says he is excited by the prospect of his former club signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, although the Irishman is not convinced that Mount would improve Erik ten Hag’s side.

“Listen, they’re going to be linked with lots of players but the one that would excite you really is Kane.

“He’s [Mount] just gone off the boil a little bit. He can bounce back and he’s got quality, I was raving about him a few years ago but he’s just gone missing the last year or two.

“Again, one or two injuries and the fact he can’t get in the Chelsea team I wouldn’t be hanging my hat too much on him to improve United and close the gap.

“I think he’s a good player but would he improve Man United? I’m not so sure. I think Rice would, Rice would be a decent signing, but in terms of the excitement and goalscoring, I’d go all-in for Kane. But, can I see Spurs selling to Man United? Very, very difficult.”
