Amad Diallo sees promotion hopes with Sunderland shattered after play-off defeat

Amad Diallo’s hopes of promotion with Sunderland have been shattered after the club sustained a 2-0 (3-2 aggregate) defeat against Luton Town this evening.

The Black Cats have fielded one of the youngest sides in the Championship this season upon their return to the second division, so to be contenders for a place in the Premier League by reaching the play-offs was already an outstanding achievement.

Amad’s scintillating form has been pivotal throughout the side’s journey; he finished the term as Sunderland’s top goalscorer with 13 league goals to his name, as well as one in the first leg of the play-offs.

The Ivorian will now return to Old Trafford imminently and is expected to be in attendance at Wembley for Manchester United’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City.

Ten Hag mulls over Amad future

It is currently unconfirmed whether he will be kept at Erik ten Hag’s disposal next season or if he’ll depart on another loan spell. He’s certainly proven that he’s ready to play among the first-team, but it will likely depend on the minutes he is guaranteed, as Amad is now used to being a regular starter.

One thing for sure is that United fans should be excited at the young prospect’s potential. He, along with talents such as Alejandro Garnacho, could be deployed on the flanks in M16 for years to come.

  1. Utd have to play him if they bring him back. No point having him sitting on the bench all season as he will leave for another club and regular game time.

  2. bring him back and stick him on the bench for the last 2 games the bench is rather thin
