Manchester United consider move for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Switzerland international has enjoyed an impressive season in Germany and he’s now attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

According to The Independent, Manchester United have added Gregor Kobel to their list of goalkeeper targets, with the 25-year-old is also believed to be on Chelsea’s radar.

The report states that this doesn’t change anything as far as David de Gea’s new contract is concerned, with talks ongoing with the Spaniard.

It is also noted that while Erik ten Hag wants De Gea to stay at Old Trafford, the manager wants to create more competition to ensure he has different tactical options.

Kobel is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until 2026 and I don’t think we would get him on the cheap, so a lot will depend on whether we have new owners before the transfer window.

If United so sign Kobel, however, that will raise questions about De Gea’s role as first choice keeper.

But I wouldn’t hold my breathe when it comes to the Glazers selling before the end of the season.
