Manchester United are reportedly among three Premier League clubs interested in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
That’s according to an update from Argentine reporter Gaston Edul of TyC Sports, who tweeted that the goalkeeper is likely to leave the Midlands club in the summer transfer window.
United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation, with the latter believed to be holding the most interest, as they look to replace club captain Hugo Lloris.
Martinez played a crucial role in Argentina’s World Cup campaign last winter which saw them crowned world champions for the third time in their history.
The 30-year-old is also invaluable to Villa and would leave big boots to fill between the sticks if he does seek a move away at the end of the season.
Stretty News’ verdict
Ultimately, I can’t see a deal being done. David de Gea is about to sign off on a new and extended contract at Old Trafford after agreeing terms this week, and both the Spaniard and Martinez will not settle for warming the bench each game.
United also have to decide what to do with Dean Henderson when he returns to Carrington this summer with reports suggesting he may be given another shot in the first team.
