Lisandro Martinez ruled out of FA Cup final next month

Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out of next month’s FA Cup final against Man City.

The Manchester United centre-back underwent successful surgery to repair the metatarsal that he fractured in the home tie against Sevilla last month.

It came as a huge blow for United because the World Cup winner has been an instant hit with fans at the club.

The only positive we can take from the news is that he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of next season.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ten Hag said Martinez has “completely no chance” of featuring against City at Wembley, as per ManUtd.com.

The manager also gave a positive update on Raphael Varane’s recovery, with the Frenchman set to nearing a return to the team. That itself is a huge boost for the final.

That will raise questions about who will start alongside Varane in the final. My money is on Victor Lindelof, but I wouldn’t rule out Luke Shaw either. Both players were excellent together against Aston Villa last weekend.
