Atalanta manager accepts Manchester United target will be difficult to keep

Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund appears to be among Manchester United’s targets. The Reds have been handed a potential boost after Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini came out this week and said the young talent will be difficult to keep this summer.

We all know that Erik ten Hag wants to sign an elite-level forward. While Hojlund has more to prove to reach that status, there is no denying that the Dane is one to watch for the future.

The Manchester Evening News already reported that United are monitoring Hojlund’s situation at Atalanta, with him being one of a number of strikers being watched by the club.

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini accepts there is significant interest in Hojlund’s signature.

Gasperini told Tuttomercatoweb: “Technically and in many respects, at the age of 20, I know few forwards as strong as that.

“However, he has considerable room for growth… In certain situations, such as in the air, inside the penalty area or in the last pass, he has margins for growth.

“At the moment, as soon as you see players of this level, top European clubs fall upon them with offers that are difficult to pass up for a club like Atalanta.”

Erik ten Hag would prefer Harry Kane

It feels that if United were to get their way, Ten Hag would be adding Harry Kane to his squad before the likes of Hojlund.

That said, Hojlund, 20, is almost a decade younger than Kane, who I think it’s fair to say guarantees you goals in the Premier League. I think that is what we need more than anything in the summer, which makes England’s all-time record scorer a priority in our eyes.

Hojlund has registered 10 goal scoring contributions in Serie A for Atalanta this term, with the Dane finding the back of the net 7 times, as per Transfermarkt. He also scored one goal in two Champions League qualifiers for the Italians.

United are aware of how difficult it can be to deal with Tottenham, which may make Hojlund a more realistic target, if Ten Hag is to overlook Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

It should be also noted that Danish pundit Jonas Hebo Goldmann told TV2 that he thinks a move to United won’t happen this year, as he expects the Reds to sign a more established goalscorer.

Let us know in the comments section if you think United will sign any of these strikers (named in the article), or if you think it will be a wildcard choice like Benjamin Sesko.
