Erik Ten Hag optimistic ahead of Sevilla clash

Manchester United are ‘looking forward’ to embracing the challenge of facing Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals.

That’s according to manager Erik Ten Hag, who believes the Red Devils’ spirit is ‘fantastic’ ahead of Thursday night’s important European encounter.

Despite racing to a 2-0 lead in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford last week, two second-half goals from their Spanish opponents meant the tie ended in a 2-2 draw.

And looking to return to winning ways, United will know that they’ll need to claim victory if they’re to progress to the competition’s semi-finals and stand any chance of lifting another trophy this season.

Speaking ahead of the game about how the side are feeling, Ten Hag revealed there is optimism in the away team’s camp.

“Very good. They’re really looking forward [to it]. I think the spirit is fantastic,” the Dutchman told club media ahead of the match, as quoted by MEN.

“We know why we are here. Last week, we drew so tomorrow we have to win, because we want to go a round further.

“We also said after that we had to look in the mirror, but also it was bad luck as well. In the end with 10 [men], we conceded the goal. It was, I think, a really unlucky goal. It was a deflected goal, but it is what it is. You can do nothing for it, the only thing you can change is the future. That’s tomorrow, so we have to be ready for that game.”

United’s game against Sevilla, which will take place at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Thursday night, is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. (UK time) and will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
