Garth Crooks has named three Manchester United players in his latest Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport, after an important 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Looking back at the weekend and the race for top four, it was a good weekend for the Reds. Newcastle and Tottenham lost and we took all three points, despite being hit with a number of injuries which pretty much erased most of Erik ten Hag’s defensive options.
Without further ado, here’s Crooks’ Premier League team of the week:

United actually have more players in this week’s TOTW than any other Premier League out.
David de Gea gets a nod, as does Diogo Dalot who played on the left, and Gary Neville’s man of the match Bruno Fernandes.

Crooks was so impressed by De Gea that he thinks the Spaniard should be named club captain: “If there is one goalkeeper capable of winning a match having spent a considerable amount of time out of the action it is David de Gea. His performance against a stubborn Nottingham Forest wasn’t anything special but thoroughly dependable. De Gea has come a long way since the days he was talking about returning to his native Spain. The former international should now be the Manchester United club captain – he’s earned it.”
The BBC Sport column was also high of praise of match-winner Dalot, adding that the Portugal international was “outstanding in defence and always supportive in attack.”
Meanwhile, Fernandes could some tongue-in-cheek praise, just because he riles some people up the wrong way.
Crooks wrote: “The Portugal international is not everyone’s cup of tea but when he’s on his game he’s as good as any midfielder in the country.”
