Lisandro Martinez’s injury cause and expected healing time explained

Manchester United could be without Lisandro Martinez for several weeks.

The centre-back sustained an injury during last night’s clash with Sevilla despite there being no contact with another player prior to the issue.

What made it even more concerning is that Martinez was unable to stand and walk himself off the pitch. His Argentina teammates Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel carried him to the sidelines where he was then placed on a stretcher and taken down the tunnel for treatment.

Many viewers speculated that the issue looked like an Achilles rupture, though Erik ten Hag confirmed post-match that he knew that wasn’t the injury.

Martinez’s injury

Today, Argentine reporter Esteban Edul of ESPN tweeted that Martinez has suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot. It is unknown as of yet whether he will need an operation, or if the bone will heal on its own over time.

Reports suggest such an injury has a healing time of 4-8 weeks.
