Manchester United are awaiting news regarding the severity of Lisandro Martinez’s injury.
When the defender sustained an issue in action for Red Devils this evening, supporters were quick to label it as an Achilles tendon, however, Erik ten Hag has since confirmed that it is not.
Still, the club and supporters are now left with significant concern over the centre-back, who has been absolutely pivotal to United’s form this season and has completely revitalised the team’s backline.
He left the pitch in tears and was unable to walk himself to the sidelines. Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel, his fellow Argentina teammates, carried him off before Martinez was placed on a stretcher and taken straight down the tunnel at Old Trafford.
Martinez to undergo scans on Friday
Argentine reporter Gaston Edul has tweeted tonight that Martinez will undergo no scans this evening. Instead, the severity and the exact cause of his pain will be determined tomorrow.
One possible injury is the fifth metatarsal, with the outlook “better than expected”.
