Man United have yet to reach an agreement regarding David De Gea’s future.
The Spanish shot-stopper still has just over 12 months left on his deal, but with the Red Devils retaining the option to trigger that year’s extension, the club have decided not to and have instead opened contract talks in the hope of negotiating a lower salary for their number one.
Accepting that in order to stay with the club, he will need to take a pay cut, De Gea is understood to be willing to do so.
However, with United’s first offer falling way below what he was expecting, the United number one rejected the offer – leaving his future in doubt.
And according to recent reports, there are concerns among United’s hierarchy that the club could lose one of their most important and senior players.
Since joining the Red Devils back in 2011, De Gea, who was signed by legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has gone on to keep 185 clean sheets in 532 matches in all competitions.
