Christian Eriksen is adamant about playing in a final for Manchester United this season after being ruled out of the Carabao Cup clash at Wembley in February.

The midfielder picked up an ankle injury in January during an FA Cup tie with Championship side Reading, and only returned to action last weekend.

Eriksen had played a pivotal role for the Red Devils up until that point and will continue to now he is back on the pitch, especially with the season-defining fixtures on the horizon for the club.

This Thursday holds a Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla, and United will travel to Wembley again on April 23 for the FA Cup semi-final versus Brighton and Hove Albion. Eriksen being in the squad is already a huge boost for Erik ten Hag, as the creativity and stability the Dane brings to midfield set him aside from other players.

When on the sidelines, the 31-year-old was growing frustrated at the number of games he was missing, which led him to ask one thing of his teammates. He said (via the Utd Podcast and club website): “I said to the guys, to my teammates, just keep winning games so there are more games for me when I come back.

“It’s also been part of the mindset – the more games they win, the more cups they continue in, the more games and possibilities of playing a final I will have. For me, this is a good time to come back, to be ready for the last push.”
