Christian Eriksen has opened up on the feeling of stepping out at Old Trafford, having experienced the sensation as both a home and away player.
Prior to signing for Manchester United last summer, Eriksen had played in England for several years at Tottenham Hotspur and more recently Brentford. Earlier in his career, when he represented Ajax, he had also travelled to Manchester to play at the Theatre of Dreams.
He was one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings last July and he has since gone on to play a crucial role at the heart of United’s midfield. The stability and creativity he brings to the squad make him an irreplaceable figure, and his experience across Europe only adds to that.
Old Trafford is renowned for its electric atmosphere thanks to the faithful Reds that ensure it’s packed out for every matchday. Whatever the weather, the competition, or recent results, the fans get behind the team 100% and play their part in helping the team get a result.
Eriksen on Old Trafford
Speaking on the Utd Podcast and shared by the club website, Eriksen weighed in on the stadium’s impact on the players.
“The vibe in the stadium as an away player was intense but not really scary,” Christian told our podcast co-hosts about his days as a visiting player. And then coming here and playing, I do get why some people – especially now and how it’s going – are scared to play because of the crowd. [They are] good people, good fans. It’s a wonderful stadium.
“[It was] weird [walking out of the tunnel as a United player for the first time]. The same as when you walk into the stadium, walking to the right instead of the left [to get to the] changing rooms and stuff. “So that was a bit of a different feeling compared to being here the last few times but no, it was special.”
