Paul Scholes believes injuries have stopped Anthony Martial from becoming a top player for Manchester United. It’s a common view among Reds this season.
The French forward has had a frustrating season so far due to injuries. After looking hungry in pre-season, Martial has been unavailable for most of the 2022/23 campaign.
However, in a bid to regain his fitness, Martial has been used as a second half substitute in United’s last three Premier League matches.
Martial was on target against Everton to score his fourth league goal of the season.
Speaking to BT Sport, Paul Scholes said Martial could score 20-25 goals per season in Ten Hag’s side if only he was able to stay fit.
“He hasn’t got a good record fitness wise,” Scholes said, as quoted by TeamTalk. “If he’s playing in this team [injury free] he’s scoring 20-25 goals.”
One would think that Martial’s future will be up in the air unless he’s able to stay fit for the remainder of the season. I’ve always got the impression that Ten Hag likes him as a player.
