Report: Manchester United consider signing Bruno Fernandes replacement

We stumble across some bizarre reports at times. Mere speculation at best, but nothing slips through the cracks at Stretty News when it comes to Manchester United.

It seems crazy to suggest that Bruno Fernandes could be replaced in the summer. While I think we desperately need reinforcements in midfield, I don’t think Erik ten Hag will be thinking about ditching someone who has played 45 games so far this season.

Bruno Fernandes may frustrate United fans from time to time with his risk-taking and frequent moaning, but there’s no denying that he remains a key player.

Moreover, Fernandes has been trusted as United captain in Harry Maguire’s absence, with the centre-back dropped to the bench by Ten Hag.

The Portugal international has registered 10 goals and 12 assists this term and he will be aiming to add to his tally between now and the end of the season. United have no shortage of fixture remaining.

With Fernandes’ form coming under fire at this time season, one report has suggested that he could be ousted from Old Trafford in Ten Hag’s revolution.

A report from The Athletic has been recited by CaughtOffside, who have speculated that Fernandes could be a player replaced in the set-up this summer.

Apparently United are looking for a No.8 when the transfer window opens, noting that alongside the likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Fred and Marcel Sabitzer (on loan), Ten Hag wants another top quality midfielder.

I would interpret that line a little differently. Surely they mean a midfielder who sits deeper than Fernandes. A younger alternative to Eriksen and Casemiro is what we need.

  1. Question : which top European team, the elite teams would make Bruno their main midfield man?I doubt if any would.Nice stats you mention there but I’d luv to know against which teams those stats were registered. This is one guy who hardly turns up in big matches & I don’t see him improving in this area.Replacing him would be a huge statement of intent & personally I’d welcome it.

    1. exactly my thoughts too. fact is fernandes is a good example of why united are so easy to play against as we have wasteful players who can’t hold on to the ball. no elite team has a player as wasteful as bruno – maybe liverpool this season but that hardly counts.

I find it strange united fans can’t see that he is a liability but also vastly overrated . I’m hoping that this story is true – i think keeping bruno would be a grave error from ETH and would jettison any chance i think of him building a successful team.

  2. it should also be pointed out that many fans including myself said it would be a foolish move to give fernandes a new bumper contract – he was performing very poorly and there was no need-now united have another de gea sitaution, no proper team will pay his wages as he isn’t worth them so united will be stuck with bruno. my opinion at least.

    1. No team save for Man Utd will take an average player like Bruno at those wages. It’s no brainer.
