Manchester United shortlist prolific 20-year-old forward ahead of potential summer pursuit

Manchester United are eyeing a move for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

According to MEN, the Red Devils have shortlisted Hojlund along with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani and could pursue the forwards this summer.

It’s no secret that a prolific striker is needed at Old Trafford next season. Wout Weghorst’s loan spell has been mediocre at best and it’s unlikely that Erik ten Hag will opt to sign the Dutchman on a permanent deal.

As well as that, Anthony Martial has been sidelined for the majority of the campaign and has not completed a full 90 minutes in the Premier League since January 2021.

Whilst his injury issues are through no fault of his own, it’s simply impossible to rely on a forward who has missed around 26 games so far due to lack of fitness, especially in a team that is looking to compete at the highest level every season.

United ‘keeping tabs’ on Hojlund

Hojlund has catapulted into the spotlight over this international break after he netted a hat-trick on his full Denmark debut last week against Finland. The 20-year-old then followed that performance by registering a brace against Kazakhstan on Sunday.

For Atalanta, he has scored seven goals and picked up two assists in 25 appearances.

Whilst he would be an exciting addition and one that the club hopefully act on, a more proven and experienced centre-forward is also needed. Someone like Harry Kane, who is capable of netting 20+ goals a season, is ideal to lead the line while a younger player like Hojlund continues to develop and build confidence.
