Barcelona star risks suspension ahead of trip to Old Trafford

Gavi is one booking away from being suspended in the Europa League.

Barcelona starlet Gavi will need to be cautious whenever he considers diving in for a challenge when the La Liga leaders host Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The young midfielder will be suspended for the Europa League play-off second leg with the Reds, should he pick up a booking in the first leg tie this week, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Gavi, 18, is expected to start on Thursday night since he’s made 31 appearances for Barcelona this season. He was one of the players they were prioritising over Frenkie de Jong in the summer as United spent over 100 days chasing the Netherlands international.

Even though Barcelona were competing in the Champions League group stages earlier this season, finishing third and falling into the Europa League play-offs for a heavyweight clash against United, UEFA rules state bookings carry over to every European competition.

This is something we hope Erik ten Hag tells his players to keep an watchful eye on when the two teams face off later this week. Barcelona would do exactly the same to us!

The biggest boost for United will be the return of Casemiro, who has been missing from the last two domestic games due to suspension.

Casemiro will also miss this weekend’s league clash against Leicester City.
