Team news for Reading clash: Erik ten Hag hints at Jadon Sancho comeback

Erik ten Hag has delivered a team news update ahead of our Emirates FA Cup clash with Reading and we could see Jadon Sancho gets some minutes under his belt.

Manchester United will be aiming to continue their quest to fight in all four competitions by beating the Championship outfit on Saturday night.

After beating Everton 3-1 in the third round, the Red Devils will be looking to do the same against Paul Ince’s side, especially since he is not “bothered” about his former club ahead of the tie.

When asked by reporters about how his squad was shaping up for the game, Ten Hag made it clear that he is confident with the players he has available.

“We always have issues, but I think tomorrow, we have a strong selection for this game,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by ManUtd.com.

“We have a good squad, we have depth in the squad, so we can cover things.”

Ten Hag also dropped a hint that Jadon Sancho is in contention to play against Reading. That would mark his first competitive appearance since October last year.

“He is training with the team and we will see,” Ten Hag added. “He is improving, he is making steps, we will make the decision after the training.

“He’s on the way back, he’s making steps, so he’s back in team training and now we have to see when he is ready to go back into the games.”

Hopefully, Sancho hits the ground running because Ten Hag has shown a lot of patience in him since the turn of the new year. And it is nice to know that we have a manager who looks out for all of his players.

The manager ruled Diogo Dalot out of action again, which means we are likely to see Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia operate in the full-back positions. Brandon Williams could step in as cover in both positions, too.

“Dalot is definitely out, and I think also Shaw [is] a question mark,” he added. “We have to see after this training session, after this day, if he [Shaw] is available or not.

“I think Aaron and Ty are playing magnificent at the moment. On Wednesday, they were really brilliant. The whole back four was brilliant on Wednesday.

“We are happy in the back four, we have depth in the squad. That’s what we need when you have to cover 10 games in 30 days and hopefully it will continue after that as well.”
