Sunderland’s sporting director expects Amad to stay until end of season

Manchester United are unlikely to recall Amad Diallo from his loan spell at Sunderland.

It would be a risky thing to do given Diallo has been performing really well for the Championship outside. At Manchester United, there are no guarantees that he would get much game time.

Diallo has scored six goals in his last 11 games as Sunderland have moved into contention for the Championship play-offs. The last thing Tony Mowbray’s side needs now is to lose one of their best attacking players.

The 20-year-old would benefit more by staying at Sunderland for the remainder of the season. Then in the summer, Ten Hag and his coaches can reassess the situation.

Speaking about Amad earlier this week, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Erik ten Hag said: “He has made really good progress there so I’m happy with that. But young players need experience and when we decide for him to come back back, he has to be a player who can compete for the starting XI or minimum to come on for a lot of games and make an impact.”

However, Sunderland director Kristjaan Speakman isn’t worry about United recalling Amad because he understands the club is happy with the progress he has made at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking to safc.com, Speakman said: “Manchester United have an option to recall him up until a certain date, all the feedback that we’ve had from them os far is that they’re delighted with how it’s gone, how we’ve treated him and how he’s performed.

“Obviously he’s come off the back of a loan [at Rangers] that I think is generally accepted as having not been as successful. I’m sure Manchester United fully respect the fact that it’s a really good, sweet spot he’s in at the minute. Everything at the minute is fully geared up towards him staying here for the rest of the season.”
