World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez was given a hero’s reception at Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth.
The Argentina defender was named on the bench but that didn’t stop everyone at Old Trafford sharing a moment with him prior to kick-off, which I’m sure is something he will never forget.
Martinez made his way onto the pitch and was given a standing ovation by the supporters, along with his United teammates who applauded him.
The players also formed a guard of honour for the Argentine.
Fans held a banner aloft which pays tribute to the centre-back, with a meat cleaver in the centre of an Argentina flag, a tribute to his nickname of ‘The Butcher’.

Martinez took to social media after the match to write a thank you message to everyone involved for their support on the night: “No words. Thank you to Old Trafford, my teammates and the staff for this amazing reception. Feels great to be back and winning.”

It feels great to have Martinez back available for selection because United have some big games coming up.
