Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has returned from the World Cup with a gold winners’ medal and the 24-year-old was given a heartwarming reception on his first Old Trafford appearance since the tournament.
Martinez is already a fan-favourite at United since he made the move from Ajax last summer, following manager Erik ten Hag from the Amsterdam club.
Ahead of tonight’s game against Bournemouth, with United chasing a sixth consecutive win in all competitions, Martinez was celebrated in front of a full Old Trafford with his medal around his neck, as seen below.

Martinez missed United’s first three games back after the season was paused to accommodate the World Cup but he was named among the substitutes tonight and could make an appearance.
Raphael Varane, one of United’s two first-choice centre-backs, was also named on the bench as Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof start.
