Gary Neville would like to see Arsenal win the Premier League on one condition… that being, if Manchester United are unable to do so.
Manchester United are not part of a title race. We’ve recently entered the top four and this season’s ultimate objective was always to qualify for the Champions League. Right now, we just need to focus on beating the teams in front of us.
However, Arsenal have surprisingly made themselves title contenders under Mikel Arteta as they sit eight points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
The question many pundits are answering is whether Arsenal can end their 19-year wait for a Premier League title?
Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has given his verdict and we couldn’t agree more… stating that he wants Arteta’s Arsenal to win the league, if United are unable to go all the way in Erik ten Hag’s first season.
“They could win the league,” Neville said on Sky Sports, as quoted by The Express. “And if it’s not going to be Man United winning the league, I want Arsenal to win the league because I don’t want City or Liverpool to win it. But I feel like there’s such a long way to go, obviously we are not even at the halfway stage.
“Ordinarily we would be at this time, I just think we have got to see how we go. These young players for Arsenal, the marathon is still to come. They will feel confident, the football is great, that’s something that is obviously pleasing for them, but they have got many tests for them, the next few games are tough for them as well.”
Neville’s comments came before Arsenal’s scoreless draw with third-place Newcastle.
Meanwhile, United sit in fourth place, level on points with Newcastle with a game in-hand.
Hopefully the future is bright for United.
