Jubilant scenes in Buenos Aires but slightly disappointing that the parade couldn’t reach Plaza de la Republica.

Argentina’s World Cup winners had an open-top bus parade in Buenos Aires which had to be abandoned because the packed roads and streets became chaotic.

It is estimated that four million people took to the streets of Buenos Aires to catch a glimpse of the 2022 world champions, including Lionel Messi, after the team’s return earned everyone a bank holiday.

Security forces decided to stop the bus continue to Plaza de la Republica because they celebrations got out of control.

Presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti has said, as per BBC Sport: “It was impossible to continue on the ground due to the explosion of joy.”

There has been an array of videos on social media showing fans jumping onto the top deck of the bus, which carried Lionel Scaloni’s squad, with one fan completely miss-calculating the drop.

Lisandro Martinez enjoys his moment with the World Cup trophy

Open-top bus parade or not, nobody is stopping Martinez from celebrating the World Cup in his native Argentina.

The Argentine defender posted a photo on Instagram kissing the World Cup trophy and holding it ever so tightly.

We don’t blame him with Messi lurking around the bus in search for it!
