World Cup final: Varane starts for France, Martinez benched for Argentina

Two Reds may feature today as France takes on Argentina in the highly-anticipated World Cup final. Kick-off is at 3 pm.

Raphael Varane has been named in Les Bleus’ starting lineup, despite being a doubt this weekend due to showing signs of illness. The 29-year-old has seemingly been declared fit to play and will line up alongside Dayot Upamecano. He featured in yesterday’s final training session and will be keen to lift the lucrative trophy for the second consecutive time.

Lisandro Martinez, on the other hand, will start the match on the bench. It is still highly likely the centre-back will feature as he has come on as a substitute in three matches throughout the campaign, and Lionel Scaloni will be adamant about using Martinez’s talents to stop the ever-threatening French attackers.

United guaranteed a world champion

Regardless of how the match ends, one Red will be returning to Old Trafford as a world champion. If Argentina lifts the trophy, United will have two World Cup winners partnered at centre-back each week. Best of luck to both players!
