Argentina training session hints at Lisandro Martinez starting in World Cup final

Argentina’s training session on Friday may hint at their starting lineup for Sunday’s match.

The World Cup final will kick off at 3 pm tomorrow with two potential Reds featured in the highly-anticipated tie; Raphael Varane for France and Lisandro Martinez for Argentina.

Varane, however, may be a doubt to start as it was reported earlier this week that the 29-year-old was showing “mild symptoms” of a viral infection. The illness had ruled Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano out of Wednesday’s semi-final. Hopefully, the Frenchman has recovered in time, as he is an invaluable member of France’s squad.

Martinez has started just two of Argentina’s six matches but has featured as a substitute in three other games. According to Argentine outlet Diario Ole, Lionel Scaloni deployed his side with a back three in training; Cristian Romero, Martinez and Nicolas Otamendi as the three centre-backs with Marcos Acuna and Nahuel Molina as wing-backs.

Scaloni’s defensive plan

Scaloni looks like he is trying to cover all bases to try and prevent the ever-threatening attackers of Les Bleus from hitting the back of the net. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann have all been in outstanding form during the tournament.
