Manchester United will receive £2.92 million for having players at the World Cup

FIFA will compensate clubs for sending their players to the World Cup.

£169 million will be distributed by FIFA in its Club Benefits Programme, which will equate to around £8,100 for each day the clubs’ players have been at the tournament. It also includes the week-long preparation after the final club match, before the World Cup began.

Manchester City will receive the highest amount in the Premier League, £4.5 million, whilst United follow in second place with £2.92 million. The Red Devils had 15 players in total jet off to Qatar with two remaining, whilst City had 16.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane still have their sights firmly set on lifting the lucrative trophy, with the Frenchman aiming to go back-to-back with his nation as world champions. Les Bleus will have to see out a win tonight against Morocco in the semi-final.

Martinez’s place in the final with Argentina is already secured, thanks to their 3-0 win against Croatia last night.
