Pele sends message to Antony after Brazil suffer heartbreak at World Cup

Manchester United star Antony has received words of support from Brazil icon Pele after a disappointing end to the World Cup, crashing out in the quarter-finals.

Croatia beat Brazil on penalties to book a book in the World Cup semi-finals. Antony, who came on in the second half, struggled to have any real impact on the game and none of his team-mates stood up when it mattered most.

That said, it must be noted that Croatia left-back Borna Sosa didn’t have much joy dealing with Antony, so we are looking forward to getting him back at United before the domestic season returns.

After the match, Antony shared an emotional message on Instagram and he received a message of support from three-time World Cup winner Pele.

Pele replied to Antony’s Instagram post with the message: “You are part of upcoming generation. Don’t give up and stay strong. The story is just beginning.”

Pele feeling strong

Recent reports in a Brazilian newspaper suggested that Pele was being moved to palliative care after the chemotherapy he was undergoing for colon cancer stopped having the desired results.

However, a week ago Pele said he feels “strong” and has “a lot of hope” as he continues treatment for colon cancer.

The 82-year-old took to Instagram to write: “My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive,” said the Brazilian.

“I’m strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual.

I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received.

“I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy.

“And watch Brazil in the World Cup too! Thank you so much for everything.”

We would like to wish Pele the very best with the rest of his treatment.
