Harry Maguire shares message after World Cup exit

Harry Maguire was one of the three Manchester United players representing England in Qatar this winter. Their run ended in the quarter-finals last night after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of world champions France.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Maguire summed up his feelings, writing: “Last night hurt. Absolute gutted. Special thanks to Gareth and you amazing fans who kept belief in me. I love my country and I hope we made you proud.”

England missed a late penalty to take the game into extra-time and fell short of progressing for a second consecutive semi-final at a major competition.

The referee had a mare as England will feel they had an unfair disadvantage with decisions. For instance, France committed 14 fouls throughout the game and received three yellow cards. Furthermore, a few big decisions went against the Three Lions.

That said, England were given a second half penalty after a silly push from Theo Hernandez on Mason Mount inside the box. The penalty itself was a shocker as Harry Kane blazed his effort over the bar.

England are coming home and the good news for United is that we have three players returning from the England camp without any knocks or injuries.
