Antony ready for first World Cup start against Cameroon

Having already qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup, Brazil’s coach Tite is likely to make a few changes to his team to face Cameroon in their final group stage match.

Brazil are expected to win regardless of the changes Tite makes to his starting XI and that would extend their winning run to 10 victories in a row.

A point from this game would also see them top Group G head of the round of 16.

One player who could start is Manchester United winger Antony, who has told Bahia Noticias that the team will be treating their final group game against Cameroon seriously. It would be his first start at a World Cup.

Antony said: “Whether you’re qualified or not, it’s an important game.

“I don’t know what the manager’s going to do, but we’re going to face it like a big game. It’s an important game for us.”

While Antony has made two appearances at the World Cup from the bench, the former Ajax star has struggled with sickness due to the stadium’s air conditioning.

WhoScored’s Brazil predicted XI: Ederson; Alves, Marquinhos, Bremer, Telles; Casemiro, Guimaraes, Antony; Raphinha, Martinelli; Jesus.

Barcelona winger Raphinha has started in his place since the beginning of the tournament, although a strong performances from Antony against Cameroon could see further changes later on in the competition.

We certainly hope Antony can impress.
