Man United make first-team plans for youngster ahead of next season

Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo has struggled since his big-money move from Atalanta. The Ivorian star was confirmed as one of United’s signings in 2020 but did not join the club until January 2021.

He spent the second half of the 2020/21 season with the Reds, impressing in a few cameos before spending the second half of the following season on loan at Rangers.

The six months in Glasgow could have gone better for Amad and this summer felt like a make-or-break pre-season for Amad. With United investing heavily in his position, the decision made was to send him out on loan again.

This time, he joined promotion hopefuls Sunderland and he is finally starting to show why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was so desperate to sign him.

After a series of good performances, which has seen him score three goals in five games, Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray reserved special praise for the United winger.

Now, there is more good news for Amad. According to the Manchester Evening News, United are hopeful that Amad will establish himself in the first team when he returns to the club upon the expiry of his season-long loan with the Black Cats.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock departure has left United light in attacking areas and as per the report, United do have the option to recall Amad in January.

SN’s verdict…
There’s no denying that Amad possesses bags of talent but inconsistency on a personal level and the turbulent nature of Old Trafford over the last two years have hardly made it easy.

He is now a regular starter for Sunderland and that will do him the world of good. It’s likely that Erik ten Hag will reassess Amad next summer and perhaps a different decision will be made on his future.

Amad prefers to play as a right-sided winger but is versatile and could play anywhere across the frontline. The big-money acquisition of Antony makes a long-term stay on the right flank unlikely.
