(Video) Fernandes scores opening goal for Portugal vs Uruguay but Ronaldo claims it

Bruno Fernandes is maintaining his sparkling form in the World Cup for Portugal as he has been directly involved in yet another goal for his nation.

The 28-year-old starred in their opening-day win over Ghana last week, assisting two of their goals as Portugal ran out 3-2 winners over the African giants.

He was named in the starting line-up again for their important game against Uruguay and to very little surprise, most of Portugal’s attacking threat have come through United’s midfield maestro.

After a sombre first half, it didn’t take long after the interval before Fernandes was involved in a decisive move. The former Sporting captain lofted the ball in towards Cristiano Ronaldo but the striker missed the ball and Fernandes’ cross bounced into the net, as seen below.

Ronaldo seemed to be confident that he got a touch to the ball, claiming the goal and celebrating with his team-mates as he points to himself.

Slow-motion replays showed that he did, however, not touch the ball and the goal will go down as one by Fernandes. FIFA have also confirmed that the goal has been awarded to Fernandes.
