Manchester United are set to consider recalling players on loan in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have a recall option with Ethan Laird, Hannibal Mejbri and Amad Diallo — as that could be a way to strengthen the first team for the second half of the season.
Of course, with the Glazers planning to sell Manchester United, it makes it even harder to see how Erik ten Hag will be given a transfer kitty to get the players he needs in to finish the season strongly.
United need a striker and a right back at the very least. Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract has been terminated and Anthony Martial’s fitness record is a concern. Meanwhile at right-back, Diogo Dalot has been superb this season but we’ve got no cover in the area.
If United were to spend in January, I think it would be best to sign a goalscorer like Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. To fix the right-back issue it will simply take signing an upgrade to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who doesn’t offer any competition whatsoever for Diogo Dalot.
Wan-Bissaka has not started for United since April and his only appearance this season came as a late substitute in the win against Liverpool. The Manchester Evening News claims that United will consider recalling Ethan Laird from QPR to support Dalot if they can find a buyer for Wan-Bissaka in January.
Amad could be an option if United want to add another attacker to the squad for the second half of the season, but after seeing Facundo Pellistri get overlooked this season, I think it would be best for him to remain at Sunderland.
The young Ivory Coast international has three goals in his last give games for Sunderland.
